John King has been the Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police at Boston College since 2010. He is responsible for the leadership and direction of the Boston College Police Department which consists of over 50 sworn staff and 30 administrative and non-sworn staff. He serves as an advisor to the senior executive leadership of Boston College on key safety and security issues and provides leadership and expertise in further development and implementation of a comprehensive University-wide safety program to support the mission of Boston College.

Mr. King has worked in the field of campus law enforcement and public safety for over 4 decades, having previously served as the Director of Public & Environmental Safety at Tufts University, Director of Campus Safety at Bentley University, supervisory and command positions with the Northeastern University Public Safety Division and as a Police Officer at UMass Boston.

Mr. King earned BS in Law Enforcement and a Masters in Public Administration from Northeastern, and he earned a graduate certificate in Emergency Planning and Management from Boston University. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Northeastern University, Louisiana State University and the University of Phoenix. He is a graduate of the Boston Police Academy.

Throughout his career, Mr. King has earned several professional certifications in law enforcement and security including recognition as a Certified Protection Professional from ASIS and Certified Sports Safety Professional from NCS4. Mr. King is a Past-President of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators and Massachusetts Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. He is a member of MCOPA, MPA, IACLEA, IACP, PERF, ASIS and NECUSA.
