It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Lt. Donald D. Williams (Ret.) of the Sharon Police Department, who died unexpectedly on June 12.
Don served his country with distinction for more than 34 years in the United States Army and Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Major. His military service included deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to his military career, Don dedicated many years to the Sharon Police Department, where he served with professionalism, integrity, and compassion, ultimately retiring in 2020 as a Lieutenant.
Following his retirement, Don continued his commitment to the law enforcement profession through his work with the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC), serving as an Assessment Facilitator for over four years. In this role, he was a valued member of our team—sharing his knowledge, mentoring agency personnel, and supporting departments through the accreditation process. Don believed deeply in the principles of accreditation and was passionate about helping agencies achieve and maintain the highest professional standards.
Don will be remembered not only for his dedication and service but also for his steady leadership, willingness to help others, and the positive impact he had on those he worked with throughout his career.
On behalf of the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission, we extend our sincere condolences to Don’s family, friends, and his colleagues at the Sharon Police Department. He will be truly missed.
