I wanted to take a moment to update you on some changes here at MPAC.
For those who have not heard, I have been selected as the next Executive Director at the MPTC, beginning on January 27th. I am grateful to the Healey/Driscoll Administration and Secretary Reidy at EOPSS for this opportunity.
I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to extend my gratitude to our Commissioners, MPAC Staff, and all of you as participating agencies for your support over the last three and half years. I especially want to acknowledge Director of Field Operations Jamie Iskra and Office Manager Maureen Mackey for their work in supporting all 256 of our participating agencies. Their work often goes unrecognized but is essential to the program’s success.
Collectively, we have made considerable progress in advancing and improving the accreditation process here in the Commonwealth. We completed a multiyear project to implement the revised 6th Edition of our standards. We have also established a process to implement technology to build and review assessments as we move from paper/hard copy checklists to a program-specific standards manual through the PowerStandards software platform.
The number of agencies that have completed an assessment for an initial award has steadily increased during my tenure at MPAC. Additionally, participating agencies that have maintained their award status through reassessments while we transitioned to the 6th Edition have held steady. This illustrates the commitment that all of you have to continue to work towards establishing the best professional practices for your agencies.
On behalf of the Commission, I am pleased to announce that retired Weymouth PD Captain Joseph Comperchio will assume the role of Interim Executive Director at the end of January while the Commission conducts a search for a permanent replacement. Joe and the rest of the MPAC staff will continue to provide you with any assistance and guidance you may need moving forward.
